Christmas is a holiday that they can give their children necessities such as school clothes or winter boots or new gym shoes or a new winter coat for school.
How can you tell if you have a good Christmas? Well, my kids know that it’s a good one if they get two of something! I’m here to ask you to join my revolution—to tattoo on your brain, if not your backside, that “More isn’t better. Better is better.”
There are many different ways we take in information. We see,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], smell, taste, touch, and hear. Individually, however, we each have a primary intake pathway. Those who are more visual learn best through their eyes; those who are more auditory learn best through their ears; those who are more kinesthetic learn best through their bodies.
This meant that when I tried my first backbend in yoga,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I thought I was going to have to spend the rest of my life in traction. Once I realized I might still be able to walk upright, the challenge was on. I became obsessed with getting my back to bend. One day, my teacher stopped me. “More isn’t better,” he said. “Better is better.”
As the president of a communications firm with a twelve-year daily yoga practice, it’s been extraordinary to see how the lessons I’ve learned from my teacher and the practice have benefited my work. The following are three ideas, phrases, and strategies that can benefit your business and smooth your life:

Knowing which you are can be very helpful. As an aural, I know that I learn best by listening—that taking notes while someone is talking can be distracting to me. Knowing that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it used to make me crazy when clients would take notes while I was talking. How could they take notes AND listen? They obviously weren’t listening, so I’d make them put down their pens and look at me—which, FYI,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], makes a kinesthetic stop listening.
A few years ago, I was teaching yoga quite a lot. And, as with many new teachers, I had a lot of ideas about how things “should” and “shouldn’t” be done by my students—mostly, that things should be done exactly the way I said they should be done. Consequently, my internal dialogue when I saw someone doing something differently was, “What is wrong with you? Why aren’t you listening to me?” Over the years, however, as I took and taught more classes, I realized that when my students or I were modifying something, it was generally for a reason. I also realized that if a teacher corrected me without inquiring into my reason, it made me cranky. This made life a lot easier because it taught me the magic phrase, “Can you tell me why you’re doing it that way?”
For example, recently I met with a client who was adamant about reading verbatim from a script that would appear on a teleprompter. So adamant that it was among the first things he told me,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], aggressively, when I got into the room. In that moment, it would have been easy to get my back up—to wonder why he had hired me if he was going to continue to work in the manner he always had. Instead, I pulled out the magic phrase: “Great. Can you tell me why you like doing it that way?” Although momentarily flummoxed by the lack of resistance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], stories soon poured out of him. I realized he’d had some bad experiences and so, some justifiable anxieties. He realized I wasn’t militant or unsympathetic. At that point, we were in dialogue—not at loggerheads. And when you’re in dialogue, the potential for change and compromise is far, far higher.

To let the moment exist how it is, to be present with it, allows us to not only fully experience it, but to be part of it. We create a separation from our reality when we pull ourselves into our heads; our thoughts destroy our interaction with it. We become someone who is relating by memory, with fear of the outcome, or are simply too lost in thought to be present. On the other side of things,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we can also be too wrapped up in our emotional state to fully see what is truly happening around us.

When we are preoccupied by our emotions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], relating to them rather than to the moment, we can never be fully present either. In relation to the moment, we can exist purely from a state of no withdrawal, no ulterior motives, no internal mental or emotional battles, and most importantly simply allowing ourselves to be where we are. In addition, we sometimes rule our days by our emotions. Often, the two of them interacting and filling our day up, and we never fully come to peace with where we are. We miss the moment.

We have lost the value of experiencing the moment for simply what it is. However, the truth is that when you can be present and not be pulled in many different directions by thoughts or emotions, all else falls away and the constant struggle you feel can dissipate.

The importance you placed on figuring things out, on worrying over the future, on delaying your responses out of fear--all of this is nonessential, because the moment does not require this. The moment exists as part of us; therefore, there is no future, no past,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], no struggle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], no aftereffect,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or even anywhere to get lost in, because we have not complicated the moment with our ideas, perceptions, memories, fears, or anything else. When we are present and fully engaged in the now of the moment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we can see clearly and feel what is important. We can understand what really matters for us at that time. We can relax and become ourselves without stress, without managing or pulling ourselves in different directions. By letting ourselves stay grounded with where we are, we are present. We are connected and therefore need nothing else. All the big problems tend to fall away because we no longer give them so much importance in our lives. We can then see them for what they are with nothing else added to them. Let go of yourself long enough to be present. Engage in the moment. Feel, see, and think about where you are and nothing else. Life’s purpose is not about struggle or always doing something; rather, it is about being where you are.

There are times in our lives when the world seems to buck us off and knock the wind out of us. Things happen that blindside us and leave us gasping for breath. Even if we know a change is coming or a major transition must happen, it is easy to become overwhelmed and to feel defeated. This is the proverbial “where the rubber hits the road” or “where the horseshoes hit the trail” – you know that place. It is that scary place that makes us shake in our boots and want to dive back under the covers to hide until it passes. But it doesn’t pass…it requires YOU to make a Decision – to Choose. This is it! I just think that it is rather interesting to see someone that would give the shirt off their back to someone and then you have other people that would steal the shirt off the back of someone and leave them like that and not bat an eye,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Lost faith is going to be re-established only through a person meaning what they say and substantiating it with their promise sealed with a handshake that they are following a road not of self want,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but for humanitarian gain.

But it didn’t show up.
Here’s the other important point. The money will show up once you’ve made the decision. If you haven’t made the decision to do something different, the universe is not going to hear that you’ve made the decision. Instead, all it hears is the chaotic vibration of, “Gee, I really wish I could,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I can’t. I just don’t have the money.” Subconscious 2: your transformation: 0. You don’t get the money by telling the universe repeatedly that you don’t have the money! When your inside beliefs don’t match the words you’re saying, that’s a chaotic vibration.
The only way to do that is to “close the back door” and make sure mentally,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and literally, you don’t have an option to do something else. That way, you have the urgency to create exactly what it is you want!
Today I make the decision to do something differently. I open my eyes to seeing where my blind spots are trying to keep me from playing big. I choose to close the back door and refuse to allow myself any excuses to do or be anything other than my divine purpose.
You can’t have the desire for something without the means to achieve it in your life. You just can’t see it yet. You have a blind spot. The means to what you desire shows up as an opportunity, not by a check handed to you just because you really,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], really wished for something.
Have you ever had the experience of watching a scenario play out in front of a couple of people and each person sees it differently,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]? Both people are guided by their subconscious to see things that support their own belief systems. It sounds crazy right,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
Blind spots come from your subconscious. It’s a part of you that is programmed to stay the same. Why? Because changing too much scares the crap out of it. And well, you know the old adage, “The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t!” So the subconscious likes it when you play small,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], don’t change, keep things status quo. Even if you don’t like where you are, your subconscious tells you that change is scary and change is threatening—stay where you are.
Here’s a possible scenario. I’ve chosen it for obvious reasons. (Grins) Say you want to invest in a coaching program. You begin to worry about the money to pay for the program. Your subconscious kicks up every terrifying thing it can think of to keep you from spending the money on improving or changing your life (because it feels threatened). You will begin to explain to yourself every reason why the desired program is a “waste of money,” “not important,” “frivolous,” you name it. So what’s the end result? You stay the same. You don’t make the changes you want to make. Score: subconscious 1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], your transformation: 0.
But the actual reality is actually quite a bit different,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Here’s the crazier part: Napoleon Hill says, opportunity is often “disguised as misfortune or temporary defeat. That’s why so many people can’t see it.” Oooh. A simple example is not getting a job you thought you wanted because a better one was waiting for you.
So, don’t be scared,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], my dear friends. We’re all in this together! So I ask you, “What are you going to decide to do differently today to manifest what you want?”
That blind spot prevented you from seeing an opportunity that was probably right in front of you to make the money you needed to do/buy what it is you wanted so desperately. Don’t blame yourself,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]; it happens to every single one of us.
Let’s say you really wanted something: a house, a new suit for that big interview or to pay for college for one of your kids. Maybe you wanted to (ahem) invest in a coaching program. You set your sights on it. You wrote intentions. You were sure you were going to find the money to do what you wanted.

The word “decide” comes from the Latin decidere “determine,’ from de-“off” + caedere ‘cut” – in other words, it means to cut off. When we make the decision to cut away from what we know (our habitual responses) and step into the unknown, our brain is not programmed to see the next step, and in fact,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it hides it. Your job is to be aware of the opportunities that are there. To question what you think of as misfortune. To remember that to decide to do something inherently means, to “do something different” by cutting away what was.
When you make the decision, and act on it, that is some very powerful stuff. I can’t tell you how many times when I invested in myself, I quaked in my boots! But I brushed it off because time and time again I saw that when I took action and made the decision, the opportunities showed up. Doors flew open. I was ready because I had learned and prepared for my subconscious’ shenanigans. Every single time I didn’t give myself a “back door option,” I found the money. Or rather, the opportunity. And I didn’t allow myself the option of an “out.”
